Body scrubs or peelings are a great way to keep your skin beautiful. They remove dead skin cells, oils, and dirt, giving your skin a smooth touch and healthy look. Scrubs and peelings contain natural oils that feed your skin and keep it moisturized. By adding some essential oils you can personalize your peeling and give it an extra aromatherapeutic value. You can easily combine some essentials to your liking and needs.

By adding some essential oils you can personalize your peeling and give it an extra aromatherapeutic value. You can easily combine some essentials to your liking and needs. Pack them in an original way and they will make a nice gift to surprise family or friends. Small cute looking jars with a self-made label will do the trick.

One of the main ingredients of your scrub is salt or sugar. Make sure the granules are not too big, as they may damage your skin or feel uncomfortable. Sugar has a more gentle touch, but salts are excellent for relaxing the muscles. Any normal table sugar or salt with a fine grain will do the trick. Some people prefer to use sea salt instead because it is less processed. Brown sugar can be used for more sensitive skin types.

Coffee to fight cellulite or oatmeal as a base for the scrub can also be used. But they leave a mess in your shower or tub, so I prefer to use salt or sugar as they dissolve in water.

Another main ingredient of a scrub is a good base or carrier oil. Sunflower is often used because it has a weak scent and lasts up to one year. But other oils such as coconut oil, sweet almond oil or jojoba oil are all good options for you to chose from. Just pick the oil you like the most, I like to use extra virgin coconut oil or jojoba oil.

Here are some of my favorite homemade body scrub recipes!

1. Basic Salt/Sugar Peeling

  • 100 grams or ½ cup salt/sugar
  • approx 125 ml or ¼ cup sweet almond oil or any other base oil (sunflower oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, rosehip oil, sesame oil, hazelnut, olive oil, etc.)
  • essential oil(s), feel free to experiment.

Take a bowl and slowly add the base oil to the salt or sugar. Keep stirring the mixture. Stop adding base oil when you have the desired consistency of a paste-like peeling. Add essential oil(s) to your liking. If using more than one, add the scents on different cotton buds and hold them together under your nose to see if they combine well before adding them to your scrub

If you prefer a smoother scrub you can add a neutral liquid soap (I always use Dr. Bronner’s Baby Mild Castile Soap). Take one with no added perfume, it will mask your essentials.

Apply salt and sugar scrubs on a warm, damp skin in your shower or bathtub. The salt or sugar will dissolve in water, making no mess afterward.

Massage the scrub in a circular motion over your whole body. Once rubbed in, rinse it off with warm water and feel fresh and reborn. To optimize the smooth and soft effect, apply a moisturizer afterward.
