Chlorine-based bleach is an age-old, inexpensive method used to whiten laundry and remove stains, but is tough on your clothes and adds harmful chemicals to your life and the environment. Luckily there are natural alternatives that are as effective and cheap as bleach and safe to use.

  • Many home accidents are related to bleach and household products. Most of those bleach accidents involve children and can have fatal consequences.

DIY: Natural Bleach For Your Laundry That Doesn’t Color Or Ruin Your Favorite Fabrics

 

Easy, cheap, and very effective to boost, soften, whiten, and clean your laundry. And it removes bad odors and won’t color or ruin your clothes. Pinky promise.

Add the ingredients to a gallon jug and fill the rest with distilled or filtered water. Shake gently to combine. Store in a dark place, to avoid oxidation of the peroxide.

 

How To Use This Color and Fabric Safe Bleach Alternative

  • To soften, brighten, and boost your laundry: add ½ cup to 2 cups homemade bleach in your washing cycle for white loads, and ½ to 1 cup for color loads. For extra softening and odor remover, also add to your rinse cycle.
  • To whiten your whites: Add your whites to the washer with several cups of the homemade bleach and hot water. Mix the bleach and whites and let soak until the water has cooled. Add laundry soap and run as normal. For extra whitening and softening, add another cup of homemade bleach to the rinse cycle.

 

Other Uses

  • Multi-purpose cleaner: Pour mixture into a spray bottle and use as a normal cleaner for table tops, refrigerator shelves, mirrors, windows, chrome, etc. Or add it to your water to clean floors.
  • Tub, tile, and grout cleaner: Make a paste with the alternative bleach and baking soda and scrub your tub or tiles with it. Let sit before washing off.
  • Toilet Cleaner: add ¼ of a gallon to your toilet tank, let sit for 10 minutes and flush. Add another ¼ of the gallon the bowl and add ¼ cup of baking soda. Swish around with the toilet brush, let sit for another 10-15 minutes, flush and clean with toilet brush.
