Acne is an unattractive skin condition people of all ages are facing. Pimples always pop-up at wrong timings. The day before you have to go to a party, have a date or an important meeting.
Today’s article is all about homemade natural acne treatments and tips to prevent acne outbreaks. We don’t want to add more harmful chemicals to your skin, so stop buying those expensive acne-fighting store-bought lotions, serums, and creams and opt for natural, chemical-free acne treatments instead.
What Causes Acne Outbreaks
Acne develops when the pores of your skin get blocked by an overproduction of oil (sebum), irregular shedding of dead skin cells, and buildup of bacteria.
Many factors trigger or worsen acne outbreaks:
- Hormones, especially androgens, enlarge the oil-producing glands, resulting in more sebum being made. Other hormonal changes within your body, like pregnancy or the use of contraceptives, also affect this overproduction.
- Drugs are also known to cause acne. Especially those who contain androgens, lithium, and corticosteroids.
- Malnutrition is another key factor to keep in mind. Several studies show that carbohydrate-rich foods, like bread and processed foods, are associated with the development of acne. Need some help with changing your diet and lifestyle? CLICK HERE.
So as you can see, acne can be caused by malnutrition or hormonal changes within your body. A daily facial skin care and healthy lifestyle is a must, but no guarantee. So what to do if acne pops-up?
Natural Tips To Avoid Acne Outbreaks
- Daily skin care. Like mentioned before, acne is caused by an excess of oil, bacteria growth and dead skin cells, therefore it is important to give your skin the daily cleanse it needs to remove all those contaminants. Be gentle, don’t scrub too hard or avoid harsh soaps and chemicals as they may irritate your skin and worsen acne.
- De-stress your lifestyle. Stress doesn’t cause acne to pop-up, but it can make it worse. So don’t forget to relax body and mind regularly to promote a better skin. Click here to learn 5 easy breathing techniques to de-stress your lifestyle.
- Only wear makeup on special occasions and use water-based products. Makeup clogs your pores, which cause pimples and blackheads.
- Healthy nutrition. They often say ‘You are what you eat’. And this shows onto your skin. Avoid processed food and carbs. Make sure to get your daily vitamin and mineral intake. Vitamin A, a powerful antioxidant found in carrots, strengthens and repairs your skin and reduces the sebum production. When your skin doesn’t get the nutrients it needs, it will produce more sebum and lose its ability to heal and fight bacteria. Zinc, a diet low in zinc may be the reason for your acne outbreaks. Zinc has antibacterial properties and plays a key role in the oil-production process of your skin. Zinc can be found in foods like yogurt, sesame seed, pumpkin seed, green peas, turkey, shrimps, and oats. Chromium will help your body to heal acne and prevents outbreaks as well. Chromium can be found in foods such as onions, tomatoes, oysters and whole grains.
- Withstand the tempting action to squeeze your blackheads and pimples. This increases sebum production and you damage the membranes under your skin allowing more sebum to spread, which results in more pimples.

5 Amazing Homemade, All Natural Acne Treatments That Did Wonders For My Skin
#1 Honey and Cinnamon
Honey is well-known for its antibacterial and moisturizing properties. Honey removes the excess oil and heals and repairs sores and scars. The cinnamon works as an anticlotting and anti-inflammatory agent. So the combination of the 2 is an excellent way to fight those pimple breakouts and it leaves you with a clear, moisturized and rejuvenated skin.
How To…
You can either wash your face with honey in the mornings, make a facial mask or just use as a spot-on treatment. Make sure your skin is dirt and makeup free.
- Mix a teaspoon of honey with a pinch of cinnamon.
- Warm the mixture in your hands for 2 to 5 seconds.
- Massage, with damped fingers, onto your skin for 1 to 2 minutes and rinse with water afterward.
- You can leave it onto your skin as a facial mask for 10-15 minutes to make sure your skin absorbs those goodies before rinsing it off or you can apply the honey-cinnamon mixture on your pimples and leave it overnight or rinse it off after a couple of hours.
#2 Tea tree oil Spot Treatment
Just as effective as benzoyl peroxide. Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties, removes excess sebum and dry out all kinds of acne.
How To…
- Apply a few drops of 100% tea tree oil on a cotton bud and dab directly onto your pimple, up to 3 times a day.
- Make sure your skin is clean and makeup free.
#3 Yogurt-nutmeg
Wonderful facial mask to treat hormonal acne.
How To…
- Combine 1 teaspoon yogurt with 1 teaspoon of nutmeg until a smooth paste-like texture.
- Apply once a day on affected areas and rinse off after 1 to 2 hours.
- Just after a few days, your acne should be better, without leaving scars.
You can also use this mixture as a facial mask. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse with cold water.
#4 Clove oil Spot Treatment
Works excellent on painful, cystic acne caused by an imbalance in your hormones. Make sure to buy a blend specially designed for acne, clove essential oil can’t be directly used onto your skin and has to be diluted in a good base oil.
Enessa Clove oil for acne has always worked for me. A bit pricey, though, but it is a good investment to make and you only need a few drops of it to cure your acne.
#5 Baking Soda
Works as an excellent exfoliant. Easy, cheap, but effective in removing dead skin, elimination of blackheads and drying out pimples.
How To…
- Apply a baking soda paste (equal parts of baking soda and water) on affected areas, such as your face, chest, and back, leave it on for a couple of minutes.
- Rinse off in the shower.
As you can see, there are many ways to treat acne naturally. So why would you add more harmful chemicals to your skin if Mother Nature has the perfect all natural cure for your acne problem?
