Getting enough potassium during the day is super important for your overall health. This essential mineral is used to maintain a proper fluid and electrolyte balance to keep your brain, kidneys, nerves, heart, and muscles running smoothly.
Potassium protects blood vessels from oxidative damage, regulates blood pressure, and prevents thickening from the vessel walls. According to a study published in the British Medical Journal, boosting potassium levels, while lowering salt or sodium intake can decrease the risk of a stroke by a whopping 24%.
How Much Do We Need
The Recommend Daily Allowance (RDA) is 4,700 mg for adults. Unfortunately, most adults only get between 2,400 to 3,200 mg per day. To get the most potassium out of your food it is important that it is fresh and unprocessed. Boiling and processing deplete potassium levels.
Potassium deficiencies are becoming a real threat and can cause extreme fatigue, irritability, and high blood pressure. The best and easiest way to up your potassium levels is by eating more raw fruits and vegetables while avoiding all processed foods that may deplete your levels even further.
