Detox your body naturally?
Although I love to detox my body a few times a year by committing to a 10-day whole food fruit and veggie detox program, there are plenty of cleansing foods you can incorporate into your daily diet.
Below you’ll find 20 foods that will help you and your family steer clear of toxin-induced health issues. Not only will they improve your overall health when eaten regularly, they make you look younger and more beautiful. There are actually so much more fruits and veggies that will help you to keep your body healthy and toxin-free, but those are my family’s favorites and are often, if not daily found on our menu.hese
20 Power Foods That Will Help Detox Your Body Naturally
1. Garlic
We use garlic in most of our dishes for its wonderful flavor, but did you know that garlic is loaded with sulfur and antioxidants to protect your body against toxic build-ups? Keep in mind raw garlic is the best, as heating destroys lots of its beneficial properties.
2. Leafy Greens
Raw leafy greens, such as spinach, kale, watercress, broccoli, and cabbage are great for cleansing your whole body. They contain high levels of antioxidants and glutathione when eaten raw. Cruciferous veggies like cabbage are also known to neutralize damaging compounds in cigarette smoke. Cooking destroys most of those beneficial nutrients. So salads or green smoothies are the best way to detox your body. Click here for my FREE green smoothie eBook.
3. Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits contain high levels of liver cleansing glutathione and vitamin C. At our home we always start our day with lukewarm lemon water to help our body finalize its overnight detoxification process.

4. Brussels Sprouts
I love Brussels sprouts… and not just because I was born in Brussels :-)… but they are high in sulfur which helps to remove toxins from your blood.
5. Cranberries
Cranberries are powerful natural antibiotics that help cleanse the urinary tract.
6. Goji Berries
Love goji berries to supercharge my morning smoothie, lunch salad or I often add them to my seed and nut mix when I need a healthy snack for on the road. They are high in vitamin C and beta-carotene which help your body to eliminate toxins and improve liver performance.
7. Blueberries
Blueberries are loaded with super-detoxifying compounds called proanthocyanidins and antioxidants.
8. Sea Vegetables
Seaweeds are less used in our Western diets but they are great in binding and eliminating radioactive waste and heavy metals. For more info on how to add more sea veggies to your diet, CLICK HERE.
9. Apples
Apples are low in calories, nutrient dense, and high in pectin, a soluble fiber that helps your body to eliminate food additives and metals.

11. Asparagus
Asparagus is great for your liver health, soothes an upset stomach, and works as a natural diuretic.
12. Avocados
Another fruit rich in liver cleansing glutathione and high in colon cleansing fibers. CLICK HERE for my favorite avocado recipes.
13. Basil
I love Italian food! They use basil to flavor most of their dishes and for a good reason. It is full of antioxidants and other beneficial phytonutrients to cleanse and protect your liver.
14. Fennel
Fennel has a licorice-like flavor and is packed with fibers to flush out toxins and improve digestion.
15. Beets
Beets contain a unique mixture of phytochemicals known to alkalize your body and cleanse liver and blood.
16. Cilantro
Not my hubby’s favorite, but I love it… that’s the thing about fresh cilantro, or you absolutely love it or you absolutely hate it for its strange soap-like taste (or that’s how my hubby likes to describe it). If you can bear the taste, it’s one of the best herbs to cleanse your liver. Can be used in smoothies, salsas, or curries.
17. Dandelions
Bitter to the taste but good to give your liver a good cleanse. The fresh leaves can be used in a green smoothie, but make sure to add enough sweet fruits to mask the bitter taste. Another thing you could try is dandelion root tea (I make mine with honey and lemon).
18. Ginger
Ginger improves your body’s natural detox process and helps to eliminate more toxins… And it tastes great! CLICK HERE to discover more ginger benefits.
19. Parsley
Parsley is packed with beta-carotene, vitamin A, C, and K to protect and cleanse your kidneys and bladder. We love parsley to flavor all sorts of dishes going from our morning smoothies to salsas, curries or soups.
20. Pineapple
Having pineapple for breakfast or as a dessert is the best way to cleanse your colon and improve digestion.
Keep in mind, raw is best!
… and not only adding more detoxifying foods to your diet is important for overall health, avoiding toxins is equally important. Although we can’t avoid all toxins, reducing processed foods, refined sugars, dairy, artificial sweeteners and washing all your produce thoroughly and buy organic as much as possible can already have a major effect on how much toxins are able to enter your body.
