I hope you are enjoying green smoothies as much as we do. We have them for breakfast almost every single day! Today I’m going to share some easy steps to make green smoothies ahead to spare some of your precious morning time. So no more excuses… let’s get started.

Make Ahead Smoothies

Step 1: Collect Your Ingredients and Supplies

When you go shopping stock up a week’s, or even month’s supply (depending on the space left in your freezer 🙂 ) of leafy greens, fruits, liquid bases.

Other things you’ll need before you can start prepping:

  • Measuring cups
  • Ziploc bags
  • Mason jars
  • Recipes

Step 2: Prep Your Ingredients

The first thing you’ll need to do is wash your fruits and vegetables. Spin or pat dry and start chopping or slicing your fruits into chunks.

Label Ziploc bags with date and ingredients. Measure ingredients (just leave out the liquid base) and pack them into the bag (don’t pack the bags too tightly). Place the sealed bags in the freezer for up to 6 months. Although it is best to use them within 2-4 weeks for the best quality.

Remember the standard green smoothie recipe (serves 2, or makes around 32 ounces):

  • 2 cups leafy greens
  • 3 cups ripe fruit
  • 2 cups of a liquid base (filtered water, coconut water, almond milk, etc.)

Once you get accustomed to its taste you can add more greens, or just stick to this ratio. Not all people enjoy a strong, green flavor and that’s just fine.

Step 3: 5-minute Breakfast

Before blending, thaw the Ziploc bag with the smoothie ingredients for a few minutes on the counter or in warm water.

Add the greens and fruits to your blender, add liquid base and blend until smooth. Pour into a mason jar or any other portable container and you’re ready to go!

FYI: Freezing Blended Smoothies

Blended smoothies can be frozen until ready to use. Get them out the freezer the night before and let them thaw in the fridge. They may separate due to the freezing and thawing process, just give them a good shake and they will be okay to consume.

See super easy. Once a week you’ll spend less than 20 minutes cutting, chopping, and packing… but saves a lot of time in the morning!
