Kiwis are a delicious green fruit loaded with vitamin C, E, K, fiber, potassium, copper, magnesium, and manganese. It actually contains more vitamin C (273% of the recommended daily value) than an orange and as much potassium as a banana.

Most people don’t know that kiwis are edible without being peeled. I learned this from someone in a group on Facebook. At first, I thought she was joking, and I couldn’t believe you could eat the brown fuzzy outer shell…

But after doing some research and trying it for myself, I’m convinced. As long as you buy organic kiwis you should stop peeling them to boost its nutritional value.

Why You Should Leave The Skin On

The fuzzy brown skin of the kiwifruit contains the most antioxidants, fibers, and beneficial phytonutrients. Up to 3 times more than the flesh. According to some experts, eating kiwis with the peel boost their anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergenic properties and combats bacteria like Staphylococcus and E-coli.

The skin also contains an oil that is high in omega-3 fatty acids and alpha-linolenic acids, both are essential fatty acids that are not produced by our own body. They are essential for our joint, hormone, heart, and metabolic health.

Leaving the skin on makes it easier and faster to consume and makes it less messy as the skin holds the fruit together.

How To Eat It

Always opt for organic kiwis if you are planning to eat the skin and wash them before use as you never know who or what touched them before you did. Eat like you would eat an apple or peach or throw them in your blender to make a delicious smoothie.

If the skin is too hairy for you, rub it first to remove most of the hairs or opt for the “Gold” variety which has a smoother and less hairy skin.
