Our hands have a lot to endure during the day. Extreme cold or warm weather are giving us dry and damaged hands. Are you also willing to treat your hands to give them that soft touch back? Well, why not try to make a homemade hand cream recipe yourself instead of wasting your money on those expensive commercial ones. It is very easy and once you bought the ingredients you’ll be able to make a lot of hand creams with different scents and this without spending a fortune on them. This is an easy homemade hand cream recipe:

Homemade Hand Cream Recipe

What do you need?

  • 1/4  cup extra virgin coconut oil (solid at room temperature in colder regions of the world)
  • 1/8  shea butter
  • 1/8  cacao butter (or more shea butter)
  • 1 tablespoon liquid oil (sweet almond oil, jojoba oil or any other oil you like)
  • 10 to 20 drops of essential oils of your choice (I like lavender, tea tree oil or ylang-ylang)

How do I start

  • Use a double boiler system to heat the coconut, shea and cacao butter on a low fire. Stir until they are melted and forming a smooth mixture. Remove from the stove.
  • Slowly add the liquid oil under constant stirring. Then add the essential oils. Do this when your mixture has cooled down enough. Some essential oils are volatile and will evaporate when you add them to a hot mixture. Add these scents to your liking. I always use 10-20 drops to create a scent that is strong enough but not overwhelming. If you prefer to add some more to enhance the scent, feel free to experiment with them.
  • Store in a jar or container of your choice. Label with date and the essential oils you’ve used.

5 top essential oils you can use to restore your damaged skin

Try out those essential not only for their wonderful fragrance but discover their refreshing, reviving, softening and smoothing properties.

  • Lavender has anti-inflammatory properties, regenerates tissue and heals our skin. It has a soothing, calming, anti-stress and anti-anxiety effect on our mind and body.
  • Rosemary shows great results in healing and restoring our skin, especially in healing scar tissue.
  • Peppermint hand creams are deeply nourishing, moisturizing and softening. The peppermint gives it an energizing and fresh effect.
  • Jasmine has great results for a dry and sensitive skin.
  • Geranium and Orange give your damaged skin the treatment it needs with the uplifting sunny scent of rose geranium and vibrant sweet orange essential oil.

Another great thing to try is to add vanilla extract instead of the essential oils. But watch out that you don’t use too much of this extract or your cream will not form the smooth emulsion you’re looking for and the compounds will separate again. As you can see, this homemade hand cream recipe is very easy to make!
