Being on a diet and achieving your ideal weight is one thing, but even harder is to maintain a healthy weight. Most people don’t care if they gained an extra pound after a well deserved holiday. But if you count a few of them together, you’ll notice you actually gained a lot more than you thought.

Suddenly jeans are getting tighter and shirts are getting too small. Sounds familiar? To me it surely does. In the past, I used to go on all sorts of crazy diets to lose a few pounds for special occasions like a holiday, wedding, etc. Most of them were pure misery, but to some level, they actually worked. I was presentable in a bikini or was able to fit into that one special dress… so happy-happy, goals achieved, and back to normal.

Fast forward 3 months…. all the weight, and then some, was back and the circle repeated itself… until I took up a course to become a nutritionist and gradually we (my hubby and me) changed our lifestyle and eating habits and saw our health improve significantly.

I was able to reduce and maintain my weight while improving my inherited high cholesterol levels and heart rhythm disorder. And my hubby hasn’t had Multiple Sclerosis flare-ups since 2012 and is successfully off his weekly sick-making injections since 2014! All thanks to improving our health and diet. So instead of putting the focus on weight loss, make being healthy your goal. Adding more healthy stuff to your life will eventually take over the bad stuff.

The best strategy we’ve got is to just add in the good stuff! Eventually, it’s going to crowd out the bad stuff

… and permanent weight loss and achieving your healthy weight is a happy side effect of living and eating healthy.

Starting with small changes in your lifestyle can help you to achieve your goals!

Changing lifestyle is a process you’ll have to go through, don’t expect it to work from one day to another. You will feel the benefits of a healthier lifestyle even when the changes are small. Try not to change too many things at once. Your body is used to a certain routine which you are trying to break.

If it’s used to a lot of protein and fats and you start eating almost only fruit and vegetables, your body will respond heavily to those changes. The easiest way to start breaking your eating habits is with a healthy breakfast. Why not replace bread, jam, waffles, bacon, eggs with healthy options?

A healthy breakfast will give you a good energy boost to start your day with. A good option is a mix of different fruits. If you feel that this is not enough, add some probiotic yogurt (I love homemade coconut yogurt) to the fruit and maybe some honey, oats or granola. Most fruits can also be blended with vegetables for tasty green breakfast smoothies. (Are you a smoothie lover too? Get my FREE green smoothie eBook below and take up the 7-day Green Smoothie Challenge!)

Tip: Also, don’t eat too fast and more than your daily calorie need. When eating too fast your body does not have the time to give the signal of a full stomach to the brain and you will eat too much. Drinking water is great to reduce the feeling of hunger at any time.
