Essential oils are volatile, aromatic compounds produced by many plants. Moreover, they are prepared through fragrance extraction methods. Steam distillation, solvent extraction, and cold pressing are the most common methods. It carries a distinctive scent or essence and holds a lot of beneficial properties.
Although most essential oils are safe to use, there are some rules to keep in mind when applying them to your body.

Essential Oils Safety 101
- To begin with, essential oils are rarely used undiluted. They are highly concentrated. To give you an idea, you’ll need thousands of rose petals to create just one drop of essential oil. When some essential oil are used undiluted they can cause severe skin irritations. Furthermore, always dilute essential oils in a suitable base oil or lotion before applying it on your skin. Moreover, a massage oil contains approximately 2-3 % of the essential oil. Also, if you have a sensitive skin, try new oils on a small patch of your skin before applying all over your body.
- Additionally, don’t use internally and avoid contact with soft tissue around your mouth and eyes. Though some food-grade essential oils can be used internally, make sure that you know what you are doing. In fact, essential oils are highly concentrated and contain very powerful compounds. Moreover, some can be toxic when used orally or irritate your eyes.
- Moreover, if you are pregnant or have cancer, epilepsy, high blood pressure or any other medical condition, please contact a qualified aromatherapist to guide you. Due to their experience and knowledge, they can tell you which oils can have a negative effect on your medication and illness.

- Furthermore, some essential oils such as Bergamot and other citrus oils are sun sensitive or phototoxic. And they can destain your skin, even when diluted. Moreover, do not use them when you plan to go out in the sun that day.
- Some essentials oils cannot be used in aromatherapy or massage. Since they are produced for other applications. So you can’t use them in your massage oils, body scrubs, hair masks and any other aroma therapeutic application because of they could be a potential health hazard. Moreover, some of them can be used under strict regulation. The following essential oils are potentially dangerous and must be avoided: Ajowan, Wormwood, Mugwort, Bitter Almond, Boldo, Buchu, Costus root, Jaborandi, Camphor, Cassia, Horseradish, Mustard, Sassafras, Basil Thyme, Thuja, Common rue, Pyrola, Savin Juniper , Sweet Flag or Calamus, Elecampane and Chenopodium
