Coconut Ghee, The Best Of Both Worlds

We cook nearly all our dishes with coconut oil or ghee. Not just because they give your dishes a great flavor, but for their many health benefits. Moreover, coconut Ghee is our family’s latest discovery, as it combines the best of both in one healthy, mild tasting and super nutritious fat.

Coconut Oil

To begin with, coconut oil is one of Earth’s best and healthiest fats to cook with. Moreover, coconut oil consists out of saturated fats. While the food industry has given it a bad name over the years, those saturated fats are actually very healthy. Its unique medium chain triglyceride (MCT) are easily digested and used for energy. MCTs have shown great results in treating heart diseases, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and other debilitating neurological diseases.

Unlike the polyunsaturated vegetable oils, coconut oil is stable at high temperatures without going rancid and forming free radicals. Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a compound found in breast milk that has antimicrobial properties.

As a matter of fact, ghee or clarified butter is butter were all milk solids like casein and milk sugars (lactose) are removed, making it the perfect substitute for butter for people who have a dairy allergy. Ghee is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, E, and K.

We use ghee in all dishes that require a buttery flavor. Just as coconut oil ghee consists out of saturated fats. It is ideal for high heat cooking and has many health benefits going from improving digestion and brain function to strengthening your immune system and eliminating toxins.

Coconut Ghee, The Best Of Both Worlds

What we love about coconut ghee, apart from its combined health-promoting fats, is that the ghee adds a great buttery flavor to the coconut oil and increases its smoking point. It is perfect for frying, cooking, sauntering, and stir-frying. Its buttery flavor and moisturizing effect of the coconut oil works very well in cookies, bread, and pastries.

Make Your Own Coconut Ghee Blend

First, make your own ghee or buy organic grass-fed ghee. Add equal parts of ghee and coconut oil in a double boiler or saucepan and melt while stirring. You can add more coconut oil or ghee to your personal preference. For us the 50:50 ratio turned out the best to prepare and flavor most of our dishes. When melted, remove from heat and pour into an airtight container or glass jar. Put in in the fridge to cool down and stir every 10 to 15 minutes until solidified. It does not need to be refrigerated; you can store coconut ghee for several months at room temperature.
