Making a hair mask can easily be done at home. It’s a fun and cheap alternative. Different types of masks exist for different hairstyles. Whether your hair is dry and fragile or it lost its natural gloss, an easy to apply mask is the solution to your bad hair days!

To maintain its healthy and shiny look, apply a mask once a week or every 2 weeks at least.

Lately, I’ve come across a lot of recipes that use banana. Watch out for those! Banana masks can’t be easily rinsed out off your hair with water and shampoo and will leave tiny residues in your hair. If you are tempted to use banana, make sure to blend it very well. Out of experience, I would not recommend using banana in your hair mask.

Here are 3 of my favorite hair masks

#1: Moisturizing hair mask with honey and essential oils

This rich and moisturizing hair treatment is ideal for dry, straw-like and damaged hair. Apply every week to avoid further damage and soon you’ll see the effects of the mask. That magnificent shine and supple silkiness of your hair will be back with just this little effort.

Honey is a natural humectant and has a healthy and nourishing effect. Rosemary and lavender are essential oils that are well known for their calming and softening effect on our scalp.

Recipe:

Mix all ingredients. Depending on the length of your hair you can add more in the same amounts. Comb your hair and rinse with warm water. Dry your hair with a towel and apply the mask to hair and scalp. Give your scalp a good massage. Wrap your hair in a warm, damp towel or use a shower cap. Wait thirty minutes and wash your hair with warm water and a mild shampoo. Apply the mask every week when you have very dry hair.

#2: Yogurt mask, the solution for tangled or greasy hair

A lot of people suffer from greasy hair. Our skin produces sebum that protects us against infections and dehydration. But when produced in excess it’ll make our hair go greasy. Wearing a hat or frequently going to a sauna also cause greasy hair. This recipe will help you to reduce this problem and will give your hair a positive vitamin boost. It’s also a great mask to soften your hair, making it more easy to comb through knots and tangles.

Recipe:

  • 4 tablespoons plain natural yogurt
  • 1 egg
  • 5 drops essential oils like rosemary, lavender or ylang-ylang

Beat one egg white until it forms a foamy mass. Add the yogurt and essential oils to your liking. Stir until it has a smooth look. Apply to damp hair by giving your head and scalp a good massage. Wrap your hair in a warm, damp towel or shower cap. Wait for twenty to thirty minutes and rinse with warm water and a mild shampoo. You can use the mask without the essential oils, but out of

You can use the mask without the essential oils, but out of experience, yogurt doesn’t smell that good. Essential oils make it a more enjoyable hair treatment and give it an aromatherapeutic value. Applying this mask every week will give your hair a shiny, soft, easy to brush and less greasy look!

#3: Traditional egg mask for lifeless hair

This mask has been well known and used for ages. It can be used for all hair types and will give it a healthy and shiny look with a lot of volume. Eggs are high in proteins, that ensure the strength of your hair follicles.

Recipe:

  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil
  • optional: essential oils to your liking

Beat the two eggs and add the olive oil. Adding essential oils to your liking will again mask the bad smell of the eggs and give your mask an aromatherapeutic value. Massage the mask into clean, damp hair. Wrap your hair in a warm, damp towel or shower cap. Wait for twenty to thirty minutes and rinse with warm water and a mild shampoo. To regain the healthy and shiny look of your hair, apply this mask two times a week.
